What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural process which uses the power of suggestion to bring about positive changes at a subconscious level.

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that utilises trance and deep relaxation as tools to help you address various psychological, emotional, and sometimes even physical issues.

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, heightened suggestibility, and deep relaxation. During a hypnotherapy session, I will guide you into this state, through relaxation techniques and verbal cues. Once in this state, you will become more open to suggestions and may be more receptive to therapeutic interventions.

Hypnosis and the state of trance

Hypnosis is a natural and altered state of consciousness that many people experience in their daily lives to varying degrees.  If you’ve ever found yourself staring out of the window, lost in a daydream or gotten so engrossed in a book that you lose all track of time, the chances are that you’ve experienced a hypnotic trance.  In a hypnotic state, individuals become highly receptive to suggestions and are more open to changing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Trance is a state of altered consciousness characterised by a narrow focus of attention and a reduced awareness of the surrounding environment. Trance states are not limited to hypnosis, trance states can occur naturally in everyday life. They can be experienced in various situations, such as during meditation, religious rituals, or when someone becomes so absorbed in an activity that they lose track of time.

During this trance state, you will remain totally in control.  Contrary to some misconceptions, hypnosis does not involve giving up control or being under someone else's power.  Hypnosis is a voluntary state. You choose to enter into a hypnotic trance, and you can exit it at any time if you wish to do so. A hypnotised person is not in a state of unconsciousness or sleep; they are aware of their surroundings and can make decisions.
